Woman sues over care from allegedly negligent doctor

A Texas woman has filed suit against a local hospital and doctor, claiming medical negligence. She says that she was subjected to numerous surgeries and unnecessary procedures because of a negligent doctor. The suit was filed in Jefferson County against Southeast Texas OB-GYN Associates PA and one of their doctors. The negligence claim is related to procedures that were administered in the first half of 2013.

According to the suit, the woman visited the doctor’s office in March 2013. The doctor recommended surgery and performed a hysterectomy on March 20, 2013. She was released from the hospital the following day. The woman continued to suffer complications and reportedly returned to the doctor for additional treatments. However, those treatments did not resolve the issue.

Eventually, the woman was admitted to the hospital, and, on June 13, 2013, an IVP test was performed. That test indicated that the woman had a high-grade obstruction that could only be removed through surgery. The woman says that she suffered through a hysterectomy and other unnecessary procedures because the doctor failed to identify the problem early in the process. She says she will continue to have pain and other medical issues related to the procedures. There was no word as to how much in damages the woman was seeking.

While many doctors are competent in their actions and recommendations, mistakes do happen. A doctor may diagnose a patient with an incorrect condition, prescribe an unnecessary treatment or even miss a diagnosis altogether. The outcomes of those errors can cause serious pain and complications that may require years or even a lifetime of ongoing care. Sometimes, a patient’s only recourse is pursue legal action to recover compensation to pay for that ongoing treatment.
