2-vehicle crash in Texas claims 2 lives

A deadly accident on the evening of Jan. 24 claimed the life of a man on U.S. 277 outside of San Angelo, and another person was airlifted to a medical facility with serious injuries. Authorities reported that at about 9:45 p.m., a northbound pickup truck crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 38-year-old woman. She succumbed to her injuries on Jan. 25. The truck driver, identified as a 28-year-old man, died at the scene.

According the Texas Department of Public Safety, the deceased man worked at the oilfields, and the woman was a nurse. At the time of the report, authorities were continuing their investigation into the fatal accident. Both individuals were properly restrained, and weather did not seem to be a factor in the accident. The speed limit was 70 mph, but the speed of the vehicles was not reported. No passengers were reported to be in either vehicle.

After the death of a loved one in a serious accident, the family might not know what course of action to take. If the death was due to another’s negligent actions, the family may be able to pursue legal action against the responsible party in order to receive financial compensation for the sudden medical and funeral expenses the family might need to pay.

A personal injury attorney might be able to help clients as they consider the facts of the accident. In this case, the attorney might be able to review the official accident report to determine the extent of fault that each involved party was responsible for, which could then help family members decide if filing a wrongful death claim is the best course of action to take. The attorney might also be able to negotiate with the insurance company of the responsible party.
